Policies and General Information
About Therapy
Life is often unpredictable, challenging and painful. Our mental health is impacted by genetic and physiological issues, family dynamics, religious and cultural influences, and a myriad of other factors. Therapy can help you explore pathways to alleviate mental health issues and experience greater well-being. The process of therapy can be challenging and rewarding. In collaboration with your therapist, you can determine your goals for therapy and explore the best path to manage mental health issues and live a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
LIMITS TO CONFIDENTIALITY
Confidentiality is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. However, there are times when a therapist is legally required to break confidentiality. Those times include:
- Evidence or reports of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse of a child, elderly person, or dependent person.
- Threats of suicide or homicide.
- When therapy notes are subpoenaed by a court of law.
- When insurance companies and other third parties paying for therapy request general information about diagnosis, treatment progress, and prognosis.
APPOINTMENTS
Sessions are from 53 – 60 minutes in length. Session time will not be extended if you are late. There is a fee charged for missed appointments that are not canceled at least 24 hours before the session. (Exceptions may be made for emergencies). Insurance and other providers will not pay for missed appointments.
INSURANCE BILLING
Currently, we bill the following insurance companies: Aetna, Blue Cross, DMBA, EMI, PEHP, and Select Health. We bill insurance as a courtesy to our clients. You are ultimately responsible for payment. If we don’t bill your insurance, we will provide you with the necessary documentation to seek reimbursement.
COURT APPEARANCES
As a general policy, therapists at Palisades Counseling do not testify in civil or criminal court proceedings. If a client requests (and signs a release of information) a treatment summary can be provided by their therapist.
COMMUNICATION WITH THERAPISTS
Our therapists are eager to support you in your mental health treatment. They will attempt to return phone calls or emails as quickly as possible. Issues that require more than a short response (5-10 minutes) may require scheduling an appointment.
